Mall Rivals: The Comeback Update
June 2026’s content drop — casino, events, expansion, and a mall that finally had an outside.
After a quiet stretch, Creedon shipped The Comeback Update to Unstable and then to main on 25 June 2026. It is not 1.0. It is the content bridge that made 1.0’s mall feel like a place: lights, an exterior, a barber, a casino, random events, and the ability to buy adjacent floor. They recommended a fresh save. Stores became expandable; old saves were likely to misbehave.
If you jumped straight into August 1.0, you inherited all of this. This page exists so you can tell a June feature from an August feature when a video mixes them.
Casino
A casino space opened. The first machine is a physical slot cabinet: walk up, bet, spin. House edge is real. This is a break from stocking, not a second business plan. Commerce perk players should treat it as recreation. Crime perk players should not assume a jackpot launders heat. If you are in a 20-minute game mode, skip the casino. The casino guide is the walk-in filter.
Dynamic events
Random events now hit mid-round: trending products, wholesale opportunities, supply shortages, security incidents, and more. Each shifts the economy in real time and broadcasts on banners and ShameTV. That is why pricing told you to stop set-and-forget even before 1.0’s daily demand graph. An event is a weather report. Buy the trend, or get out of the shortage SKU, or hide if security is the banner.
Barber
You are not stuck with the starting look. Walk into the barber, sit, change outfit and appearance on the spot. Appearance is also an employee stat, but this is for you. Useful before ShameTV, useful before you take screenshots, not a profit node.
Store expansion
Buy adjacent floor and grow the sales floor. This is the “I outgrew the box” button, distinct from leasing a second address. Full tactics on store expansion. Combined with April’s 50% sell/close, you can reshape a mall without being married to a bad footprint.
Interior lighting and layout
The inside was reworked: new layouts, materials, lighting. Creedon said it finally felt alive instead of flat. Pathing and “where is wholesale from here” changed with it. Do not memorize a March corridor.
Mall exterior
For the first time you can walk outside. They warned the exterior was not fully built — foundations in, rest later. 1.0 did not pretend the outside was the whole game. Do not plan a run around unfinished streets. Use it as atmosphere and a smoke break, then get back to the till.
Characters and bank
Player and NPC models were rebuilt: customers, employees, mall cop, shady dealer. The bank area got a visual refresh with the same functions. If a friend looks “wrong,” they are on a pre-Comeback clip.
Fixes that played like features
Comeback rode in with a huge fix pass: multiplayer sync, save/load, NPC pathing, store interaction, tablet/HUD glitches. Unstable testers were the filter. If your June save still warps, that is exactly why they asked for a new file.
A day later, v0.4.2 hotfix landed. Always check Steam news after a “huge” drop; the hotfix is often the playable version.
What Comeback did not add
No six-branch perk tree. No Pharmacy / Hardware / Liquor pack. No Mall Buyout headline. Those are 1.0. Comeback also did not finish the exterior. When a creator says “the update added police and perks,” they are flattening two months. Keep the timeline honest so tier lists stay honest.
If you are bootstrapping a mall in 1.0, you still live in Comeback’s building. The casino is down the hall. The barber can change your face. The event banner can ruin your tag. Play the room you are in, not the trailer from February.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers players actually search for in Mall Rivals.
When did the Comeback update ship?
Main build on 25 June 2026 after an Unstable run. Fresh saves were recommended.
Does the casino make money?
Slots have a house edge. Treat them as a break, not as a shop.
Is store expansion the same as a second store?
No. Expansion buys adjacent floor for the same unit. A second store is a new lease and license. See store expansion.
Did Comeback add the perk tree?
No. Perks, police-as-jail, and Mall Buyout are 1.0 features.
