Mall Rivals Guides
From the first vacant unit to a Mall Buyout — practical walkthroughs, not filler.
Mall Rivals is a shared-mall tycoon: you buy a unit, haul boxes, set prices, hire people, and fight seven other players for the same foot traffic. This hub is the map for every how-to on the wiki. If you just launched 1.0, start with the first-store walkthrough and keep the store tier list open in another tab so you do not lease a dead corner.
The loop looks simple until a queue spills into the corridor, a cop fines you for dumped crates, and a rival undercuts your soccer balls by two dollars. The pages below exist because those failures are specific. Hiring is not “get staff.” You walk to the recruitment benches, read five skill bars, pay a hiring fee plus a daily wage, and assign cashier, stocker, or cleaner or the worker stands still. Pricing is not “charge more.” You line the shelf marker with the dollar sign, compare market value, and use the bulk round-to-dollar tool when the tablet lets you. Crime is not a meme. Throwing a box into the corridor opens a Busted panel with Pay Fine, Bribe Cop, or a freeze. 1.0 added a real police force, lockpicks, pickpockets, and a cell for repeat offenders.
How to use this hub
Read in this order if you are new:
- Getting Started — buy the unit, move starter boxes, make a sale.
- Controls — WASD, grab, tablet, register Esc, employee hotkeys 1 / 2 / 3 / F.
- Employees — when to hire, which skill bar matters, how managers work in 1.0.
- Pricing and economy — demand that shifts daily, attractiveness, cleanliness, variety.
- Store expansion — second lease, adjacent floor buys, selling a store at 50%.
- Perk builds — Commerce, Crime, Combat, Mobility, Social, Labor.
- Crime and police — only after you can restock without leaving piles in the hall.
- Mall Buyout — how the 1.0 finish line actually works.
- Loans and ATM — borrowed cash for a second key, not for slots.
- Wholesale orders — Tab, Market, haul the pile inside.
- Casino — Comeback slots with a real house edge.
If you already know the tutorial, jump to the store types page and the store planner instead of rereading day-one advice.
What players actually search
Search logs around Mall Rivals cluster on five intents: how to play, how to hire, how to price, how to expand, and how to not get arrested. We wrote one guide per intent instead of one 8,000-word blob. Each page links sideways to siblings so you never dead-end. The multiplayer hub covers lobby rules, AI rivals, and board votes. The updates hub tracks 1.0 and the Comeback systems (casino, barber, mall exterior) so strategy pages do not pretend the demo is current.
1.0 changed the guides
Early Access taught the physical loop: boxes, shelves, mall cop, ShameTV. Version 1.0, live on Steam since 27 August 2026, added Pharmacy, Home Goods, Hardware, and Liquor, a living demand model, employee personalities and training, a six-branch perk tree, HP / stamina / combat, and a Mall Buyout win condition. If a tip on an old video says “five store types and a two-floor mall,” treat it as history. Cross-check the 1.0 notes before you copy a day-30 plan from March footage.
Fair path vs shady path
You can win by running a clean shop: high attractiveness, short queues, trained cashiers, and a Commerce perk line. You can also win by emptying pockets, picking storage locks, and selling on the black market — until police chase you into a cell. Both paths are documented. The wiki does not moralize. It does tell you the fine, the bribe, and the freeze, because those numbers decide whether a heist is profit or a wipe. Pair the crime page with game modes so you know whether the lobby is racing a buyout or a cash target.
When you finish a guide, use the related links at the bottom. Same-category pages are meant to be read as a set, not as orphan articles.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers players actually search for in Mall Rivals.
Which Mall Rivals guide should I read first?
The first-store walkthrough. Then controls and employees before you open a second unit.
Do these guides cover version 1.0?
Yes. They assume the 27 August 2026 full release: new store types, perks, police, and Mall Buyout. See the 1.0 update page for the patch list.
Is there a codes page?
Mall Rivals on Steam does not use Roblox-style redeem codes. Use pricing and the price helper instead of hunting gift strings.
Where do I find multiplayer rules?
The multiplayer hub and game modes cover co-op, free-for-all, team versus team, and AI fill.
