Sabotage Guide

Mall Rivals sells the fantasy in the trailer voiceover: undercut prices, steal strategies, or take a shadier route — sabotage is always an option. That sentence is marketing and a warning. Sabotage is not a separate game mode. It is a set of tools and habits that live inside every lobby. This page splits soft sabotage (economy) from hard sabotage (spray cans, bats, planted mess) so you stop spraying your own storefront for a joke and eating a bust mid-license climb.

If you want lockpicks and fences, go to crime and police and the Shady Dealer. If you want to win without touching a can, stay on pricing and store expansion.

The strongest grief in Mall Rivals is often legal:

  • Price just under a rival’s tag on the same SKU corridor.
  • Open the same store type next door and starve their variety story.
  • Pass a board policy that taxes the build they are running.
  • Hire the best bench candidates before they walk over.

None of that opens a Busted panel. All of it wins Mall Buyout races. Soft sabotage is Commerce with intent. Use the price helper and the tier list so your undercut still clears cost.

Hard sabotage — spray cans and bats

Community footage and patch notes agree on the kit: spray cans for graffiti and vandalism, baseball bats for thieves and fights, and the eternal classic of dumping mess where customers walk. Spray cans cost real cash in clips — one group bought a can for about $500 and immediately busted themselves spraying their own place. That is the tutorial for hard sabotage: the tool does not know whose wall it is.

Hotfixes taught more rules:

  • Dropping spray cans, cleaners, and trash bags now shows a placement preview like product boxes. Aim before you commit.
  • Guards block store entry while you hold a bat or spray can. Holster the bit before you try to restock.
  • Customer patience and register capacity mean a messy rival shop still needs your own till working — vandalism without a cashier is performance art.

Hard sabotage lowers attractiveness and cleanliness on a target. After the Store Overhaul, those stats feed customer count. A sprayed wall is not just a meme; it is an economy hit if it sticks. It is also a heat magnet. Cops path. ShameTV plays. Your face becomes the mall’s evening news.

When sabotage is worth it

Worth it: Free-for-all lobbies, short matches where one rival is clearly winning the buyout, or team versus team when your callers want a distraction while a teammate locks a lease.

Not worth it: Co-op mall-king with friends who will quit, day-one tutorials, or any run where you still mis-aim price markers. Learn controls and employees first.

Self-sabotage: Spraying your own unit “to see what happens,” leaving your graffiti because you cannot find cleaner, dumping your wholesale pile in the hall “for a second.” The game will fine you the same as if a rival did it.

Combat and 1.0 stamina

1.0 rebuilt HP, stamina, and combat. Bats are no longer props. Bodyguards punch. Combat perks matter if your sabotage plan includes standing your ground. They do not restock shelves. Pair Combat with Mobility so a chase does not end in the cell from crime.

Dynamic events as sabotage weather

Comeback’s mall events broadcast security incidents and shortages to everyone. A security banner is a bad time to start a spray route. A shortage banner is a better time for soft sabotage — buy the trending SKU legally and watch rivals panic — than for a public vandal run.

Practical loadout

  1. Soft first: undercut, hire, vote.
  2. Carry cleaner if you carry spray. You will mis-click.
  3. Never enter your own shop with a can equipped if guards are strict in your build.
  4. Time hard sabotage for crowded peaks when cops are busy elsewhere — or do not bother.
  5. Have a till plan. If you get frozen or jailed, managers keep the lights on.

What this page will not teach

We will not publish injectors, wallhacks, or “OP sabotage scripts.” This is a Steam sim. Workshop textures are not weapons. If a Discord file promises one-click rival wipes, close it.

Sabotage is a seasoning. The meal is still boxes on shelves. Use the dirty tools when the lobby asked for chaos — then wash your hands, holster the can, and ring up a customer before ShameTV finishes your highlight.

Why can’t I enter a store with a spray can?

Guards block entry while you hold bats or spray cans. Unequip before walking in. Official hotfix behavior.
